Peony Roots For Your Garden

Few flowers earn their place in the garden quite like peonies. Plant them once, and with a little patience, they’ll return year after year with armloads of blooms.

Our collection of premium bare-root peonies includes some of our favorite varieties for both the garden and cutting—from beloved classics to harder-to-find varieties in beautiful colors, forms, and bloom times.

Growing Peonies from Bare Roots

Plant peony roots in the fall in a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Position the root with the eyes facing upward, just 1–2 inches below the soil surface. Give them room to grow and a little time to settle in—once established, peonies can bloom beautifully for decades.

Peony Root FAQs

When should I plant peony roots?
Fall is the ideal time to plant bare-root peonies, giving them time to begin establishing before spring growth.

How long does it take peonies to bloom?
Peonies can take a little time to settle in. Larger, well-developed roots may bloom sooner, while smaller divisions may spend their first season establishing.

Are peonies good for cut flowers?
Yes. Many peony varieties make exceptional cut flowers with beautiful form, long stems and excellent vase life.
