How do I pre-sprout my corms?
Here’s an anemone and ranunculus Pre-sprout play-by-play 😘
First things first: make labels. Speaking of easy…you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to get corms mixed up and not know which variety is which (she says from experience); most corms look completely identical.
OKAY. 5 SIMPLE STEPS. HERE WE GO:
Pop corms in a jar and cover them with water. Keep in mind, they expand as they soak so make sure your container isn’t teeny tiny and that you cover them with an extra inch or so of water.
Soak corms for 6 + (ish) hours.
Prepare a gardening tray or seed tray (a baking dish or bread pan work great too) with 1 - 2 inches of moist potting soil.
Place corms in a single layer (or one per hole if using a seedling tray) pointy side down, and cover with another 1 inch layer of moist potting soil.
Store in a dark and cool environment between 50 - 60 degrees (55 is their favorite) for a few weeks until their new little roots are about 1 inch long.
Pro Tip: Make sure to keep the soil moist (think partially wrung-out sponge) so the corms stay hydrated
That’s it, Schmidt. They’re ready to plant outside.
